Inter Milan just won 2-1 against Fiorentina at Giuseppe Meazza, avenging the recent 0-3 loss in Tuscany.
The match started with the home team Inter Milan dominating possession. However, the lack of luck of the players on the offensive front prevented Neazzurri from concretizing their advantage. In particular, Carlos Augusto and Lautaro Martinez both hit the woodwork from corner kicks.
The opening goal came amid controversy, with a corner that Fiorentina felt should have been disallowed as they felt the entire ball had crossed the line before Alessandro Bastoni attempted to pass it back into the centre of the box.
However, this corner was awarded to Inter and converted into a goal. Initially identified as Lautaro Martinez's opening goal, it was later recorded as an own goal by Marin Pongracic.
The controversial goal saw both coaches Simone Inzaghi and Rafaelle Palladino receive yellow cards.
Inter Milan's joy of taking the lead was extinguished by an injury to Marcus Thuram, who was replaced by Marko Arnautovic.
Despite not being able to push forward much in the first half, Fiorentina regained the lead thanks to a corner kick. After a VAR review, a penalty was awarded to the visitors when the referee determined that Matteo Darmian had handled the ball. Rolando Mandragora stepped up and confidently beat goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
However, Inter Milan only needed 7 minutes after the second half to regain the lead. Substitute Arnautovic jumped highest in the penalty area to head past David De Gea and make it 2-1.
Fiorentina brought on some fresh faces in the second half. Despite their efforts, La Viola could not find an equalizer. Inter Milan took all three points and maintained their second place in Serie A, just one point behind leaders Napoli.
