The more than 4-year-old cajuput forest of Farm 402 (belonging to Military Region 9) in Khanh Binh Tay Commune, Tran Van Thoi District, Ca Mau suddenly caught fire and quickly spread, making firefighting difficult.
On April 11, Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ca Mau province, said that 600 people and machinery of the forces throughout last night and this morning were still urgently fighting the forest fire in Khanh Binh Tay commune, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province.
Previously, at around 12:30 on April 10, a fire broke out in the production forest area of Farm 402, damaging about 40 hectares of forest of this unit.
The Provincial and District Military Command forces, in coordination with the Ca Mau Provincial Police Fire Prevention and Fighting Department and local forces, mobilized more than 600 people to participate in extinguishing the fire and cutting trees to create a runway to prevent the fire from spreading.
Despite efforts, the large forest area was inaccessible to fire trucks and the canals were dry, making it difficult to fight the fire.
Currently, local authorities have evacuated 20 households living near the fire area to ensure safety. After more than 18 hours of discovering the fire, forces are still continuing to put out the fire and there is a risk that the fire will flare up again when there is strong wind.
