Hai Duong welcomes heavy rain after nearly 8 months

By 8 a.m. the same day, the rain had stopped in some areas of the province. However, according to the Hai Duong Hydrometeorological Station, showers and thunderstorms will return in the next few hours as the convective cloud area that developed over Bac Ninh has moved to Hai Duong province. In addition, a thunderstorm cloud is also developing over Chi Linh city.

Mr. Le Thai Nghiep, Deputy Head of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, said that the rain last night and this morning was considered a "golden rain" for the winter-spring rice crop after many days without heavy showers. The rain provided abundant water for irrigation, helping the rice plants to form ears and bloom healthily. The rain also reduced the pressure on forest fire prevention in Hai Duong, which is very stressful, and made forest planting more favorable.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Deputy Director of the Hai Duong Province Hydrometeorological Station, since storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) occurred in early September 2024, the Hai Duong area has only had one heavy rain shower.

Radar monitoring shows that at an altitude of about 1,000 - 1,500 m, there is a wide band of thunderstorm clouds across the Northern region. At an altitude of 3,000 - 5,000 m, there is also wind convergence.

The above two forms combined are likely to continue to cause moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in Hai Duong during the last 2 days of the weekend and possibly into early next week. Rain mainly occurs in the evening and at night. During the day, it will be sunny at some times, the weather will be cool.

"The number of rainy days since the beginning of the year is slightly less than in 2024, but not unusual. The rain last night and this morning signaled the start of the rainy season," said Ms. Huong.

Experts advise people not to be subjective, need to closely monitor weather developments, proactively remove barriers, prevent flooding and landslides for rice and vegetables in case of prolonged heavy rain.
