Tuition fee of Hanoi National University of Medicine and Pharmacy is highest at 55 million VND

Tuition fees at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi are expected to be 27.6-55 million VND, an increase of 13.3-40.7 million VND per year compared to the present.

Of which, the tuition fee for medical majors increased from 14.3 million VND to 55 million VND per year, an increase of nearly 4 times. This is also the major with the highest tuition fee among the majors in the mass training system.

Pharmacy ranked second with tuition fees of 51 million VND per year, an increase of 36.7 million. The remaining majors charge 27.6 million VND, an increase of 13.3 million.

Previously, some public schools training in health sectors announced tuition increases from the next school year. Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy charges tuition fees of about 41.8-77 million VND per year, an increase of 3.2-8 million VND compared to the current level. Meanwhile, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy plans to charge an average tuition fee of 37.6 million VND, an increase from the current level of 24.6 million VND.

According to Decree 81 of 2021 of the Government on public tuition fees, the tuition ceiling for medical and health training programs ranges from 18.5 to 61.25 million VND per year, depending on the school model (non-autonomous, autonomous in regular spending, autonomous in regular spending and investment). For programs that have been accredited and have international links, schools are free to decide on tuition fees.

That is why in the middle of last year, many medical and pharmaceutical schools announced a 70% increase in tuition fees, compared to the previous common level of 14.3 million VND per year. However, at the end of December 2022, the Government requested provinces, cities, and educational institutions to keep tuition fees for the 2022-2023 school year the same to support students, low-income families, and disadvantaged families, stabilize prices, and control inflation.

Before the 2023-2024 enrollment season, many schools plan to increase tuition fees again. On May 11, during a working session with the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed to the plan for universities and vocational training institutions to increase tuition fees according to the roadmap of Decree 81.
