After spending 20 million to have her breasts enhanced at a spa in Hanoi, the 38-year-old patient's chest area showed signs of necrosis.
Not satisfied with her bust, Ms. Hoai (38 years old) paid close attention to an online advertisement about a painless, non-surgical breast augmentation method at a spa in Hanoi. Here, she decided to spend more than 20 million VND to have her breasts augmented with filler injections.
At first, the woman noticed a difference in her breasts. But a month later, her breasts began to show unusual signs of pain and swelling. Since then, she has had to continuously take antibiotics, because every time she stops taking the medication, her breasts swell and become painful again.

This condition became more serious, Ms. Hoai had to go to the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Post Office Hospital (Hanoi City) for examination. Master, Doctor Hoang Manh Ninh - Head of the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery said that the patient was admitted to the hospital with both breasts being erect. The left breast showed signs of necrosis and was about to burst, the right breast began to show signs of skin necrosis. The breast was not round but changed into a hard deformed shape, the skin in this area was also thin and bright red. 5 months before, she had been injected with an unknown filler to enhance her breasts.
"The results of the chest MRI and examination showed that the patient had abscesses and necrosis of breast tissue on both sides. Because the patient's breasts had abscesses, the doctor had to intervene to drain the pus to clean the tissue, remove inflammation, necrosis and fillers of unknown origin," said Dr. Ninh.
On the afternoon of September 27, the patient underwent surgery to treat the injury. After surgery, the patient was prescribed antibiotics according to the treatment regimen and had the bandage changed daily. The patient will continue to be monitored at the hospital. However, complications from filler injections often require a long period of monitoring before they can stabilize, and many cases sometimes recur.
According to Dr. Ninh, recently, cases of cosmetic complications after indiscriminate filler injections have tended to increase. In July 2022, the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Post Office Hospital also treated another patient with necrosis due to filler injections at a spa.
A 42-year-old female patient came to the hospital with a fever of 38.5 degrees Celsius, pain and swelling in both breasts, and a large swelling of the left breast measuring 6x8cm. There were many abscesses in the patient's chest, leading to multiple breast abscesses due to filler injections of unknown origin.
About a month before, listening to an acquaintance's advertisement, the female patient had breast augmentation filler injection service performed here for 7 million VND.
One week after the injection, the patient found that her breasts were tense and had a high fever of over 38 degrees Celsius, so she called the spa staff. She was told that this was a normal reaction and would go away after 2-3 days. If the pain was too much, she could take antibiotics. After finishing the antibiotics, the red, hot and tense breasts did not improve and became worse. The patient went to the Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Post Office Hospital for treatment.
After consultation, the doctors performed an incision to drain the pus, clean the tissue, remove inflammation, necrosis and filler of unknown origin, and used antibiotics according to the treatment regimen.
According to Dr. Hoang Manh Ninh, after injecting filler of unknown origin, the filler still remains in the body, so the disease continues to progress silently, requiring multiple treatments, the chest is deformed, leaving ugly scars and shrinkage, greatly affecting health, psychology and economy.
Doctors say that filler injections bring quick results, however this method is only suitable for small areas such as the nose, chin, cheeks, lips, ears... beauty experts recommend not doing it for breast augmentation.
Accordingly, the chest area is a sensitive area, injecting a large amount of filler can cause blood clots, infection and greatly affect the mammary glands later.
Filler only works for a short time, if you want to maintain the results, you need to inject it many times, usually after 1 - 2 years. Frequent injections can make the breasts sag and lose elasticity, so many injections are required, so the cost is quite expensive.
Currently, there is no type of filler that is absolutely safe for breast augmentation, so doctors do not recommend breast augmentation in this way.
