The Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau has just issued a disciplinary decision against the vice principal of a specialized school that required students to eat food from trash cans.
Accordingly, Mr. Le Trung Dam was disciplined with a warning.
Previously, public opinion in Ca Mau was stirred by the news that this teacher asked students to eat food that had been thrown in the trash.
Principal of Phan Ngoc Hien High School for the Gifted, Le Chi Nguyen, said that on April 18, Mr. Dam went to check student discipline and discovered that 6 12th grade students (4 female and 2 male) brought food into the classroom to eat.
According to school regulations, students are not allowed to eat in class. Therefore, Mr. Dam asked the 6 students to sit on the stone bench in front of the school yard to eat.
“When the teacher went out of the classroom, two male students threw away the food. After checking around and returning, teacher Dam saw that the two male students did not have any food in their hands, so he asked them to go get it back to eat. At that time, teacher Dam did not know that the students had thrown the food into the trash, so he asked them to find out where they had put it and get it back to eat,” Mr. Nguyen added.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau Le Hoang Du, after receiving the information, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province established a verification team to go to the school to work with students, homeroom teachers and the school's youth union.
“We verified and found that the content reported by the press was true, so we established a review board. After reviewing, we determined that there were violations and moved on to establish a disciplinary board. This afternoon, the board met and proposed that the department director issue a disciplinary decision,” Mr. Du added.
Mr. Le Trung Dam apologized to students and parents immediately after the incident.
