Heavy snowfall warnings have been issued across the greater Seoul area with up to 10 centimeters of snow expected to accumulate in the area.
Snow began to cover many parts of South Korea early on January 9, with snowfall of up to 3 centimeters per hour forecast to affect the greater Seoul area during the evening rush hour, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.
A heavy snowfall warning was issued across the greater Seoul area at 9 a.m. local time, with up to 10 centimeters of snow expected to accumulate in the area.
The warning is issued when snowfall is expected to reach 5 centimeters or more within 24 hours. As of 10 a.m., the Ministry of the Interior and the Interior raised the snow warning from "concern" to "caution."
According to KMA, during the evening rush hour, snowfall of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour is expected to cover the capital Seoul, so people should be cautious of heavy snowfall.
According to the agency, as snow clouds developing over the Yellow Sea move inland, many areas will be affected by snow and most parts of the country will experience rain or snow in the afternoon.
Rain or snowfall will continue overnight in much of the greater Seoul area and into the morning of January 10 in southern and eastern areas of Kyunggi Province as well as southwestern North and South Jeolla Provinces, including the city of Gwangju.
