Hai Duong farmers are harvesting onions and garlic quickly to get water to prepare the land for spring rice cultivation, so the demand for workers to harvest these crops is increasing.

According to farmers in Nam Sach district and Kinh Mon town, the current price for hiring workers to harvest and cut onions and garlic is from 1,500-2,000 VND/kg or 200,000-250,000 VND/day, an increase of 500 VND/kg for contracted output and an increase of 30,000-50,000 VND/day for daily hired workers compared to last week.

The reason is that Tet is approaching and the weather is cold, so there are not many workers to hire to harvest onions and garlic. Many localities are focusing on harvesting onions and garlic to catch the floodwaters and prepare the land for planting. Time is urgent and they need to hire many workers to work quickly, so they are willing to pay higher prices than last week.

Each onion and garlic harvest (lasting more than 1 month), hired workers earn from 6-7 million VND, in some places even higher.

Hai Duong currently has more than 6,500 hectares of onions and garlic, mainly concentrated in Nam Sach district and Kinh Mon town.
