In recent years, Hiep Hoa commune has always been in the top of Kinh Mon town (Hai Duong) in terms of onion area and output.
Hiep Hoa commune currently has nearly 392 hectares of agricultural land. Every year, people grow 2 rice crops and 1 winter crop (in which onions are the main crop). With an average fresh bulb yield of 1 ton/sao, the lowest selling price is over 20,000 VND/kg, the highest is 70,000 VND/kg, onions bring in over 200 billion VND in revenue each year for Hiep Hoa people.
In recent years, in addition to long-term farming experience, people have also focused on applying scientific advances in production such as machine irrigation, automatic irrigation, using inorganic fertilizers, and improving soil to improve productivity and onion quality. In addition to onion bulbs, onions in Hiep Hoa commune are also processed such as dried, fried, etc. for consumption in provinces and cities in the country, especially in the southern region.
According to preliminary statistics of the People's Committee of Hiep Hoa commune, last year, the whole commune had 4 households growing onions with an income of approximately 500 million VND/year, including: Nguyen Thi Bich, Vu Thi Ngoc (both in Dich Son village); Tran Van Huong, Nguyen Van Duong (both in An Bo village). The remaining households all had a fairly good income or higher. The economic value of onions has contributed to improving the lives of the people here.
