Many places in Korea have recorded their lowest temperatures this winter.
According to Yonhap news agency, on January 9, the coldest weather of this winter is covering South Korea. Temperatures dropped below -10 degrees Celsius in the capital Seoul and northern regions of the country.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said that as of the morning of the same day, the lowest temperature in Seoul was -10.2 degrees Celsius and the average lowest heat index across the country was -16.7 degrees Celsius.
The KMA noted that temperatures dropped below -20 degrees Celsius in some mountainous areas of Gangwon. Meanwhile, in the central and eastern regions of North Jeolla Province and the northern regions of North Gyeongsang Province, temperatures ranged from -15 degrees Celsius to -10 degrees Celsius.
In the rest of the country, temperatures dropped to -5 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Busan even dropped to -4.7 degrees Celsius.
Many places in South Korea have recorded their lowest temperatures this winter, the KMA added, adding that the cold spell is likely to continue for the next few days.
