Ranger sold 7,743 units in 6 months, while competitors in the segment combined only sold 1,737 units.
The pickup truck market in Vietnam has 6 models, including Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50 and Nissan Navara. Of these, BT-50 has stopped selling since May due to unsatisfactory business results and Nissan has not announced sales results.
According to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), in the first half of 2024, the entire pickup truck segment sold 9,485 vehicles, 79 more than the same period last year, corresponding to a growth rate of 0.83%.
Ford Ranger is the pickup truck with the most deliveries in the segment with 7,743 units, accounting for 81.63% of the market share. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of Ranger sales increased slightly by 1.88%. The remaining four pickup models in the segment sold a total of 1,742 units. Thus, the number of Ranger sales is 4.4 times higher than the total of the remaining models in the segment.
Maintaining second place is Mitsubishi Triton with 991 new cars delivered to Vietnamese customers in the first six months of 2024, an increase of 2.05% over the same period last year.
The Hilux is the pickup truck that has made the strongest comeback in the segment. Toyota's pickup truck returned to the market in May after meeting Euro 5 emission standards. Hilux sales in the first half of 2024 were 576 units, ranking third in the segment. Meanwhile, in the same period in the first 6 months of 2023, Hilux sold only 62 units.
Near the bottom of the sales rankings, the Isuzu D-Max delivered just 170 vehicles in the first half of 2024. D-Max sales were nearly half of those in the same period in 2023, a 43.9% decrease.
In contrast to the Hilux returning to the market, the Mazda BT-50 stopped selling since May. In the first half of 2024, the BT-50 pickup model sold only 5 units. Compared to the same period in 2023, the BT-50 delivered 470 units.
