Visitors can be fined up to 500 euros if they set foot on Spiaggia Rosa beach.
Spiaggia Rosa Beach with famous peach-colored sand in Italy
Spiaggia Rosa - “Pink Beach” or “Rose Beach” in Italian - is a beach on Budelli, one of the islands of the Maddalena archipelago in northeastern Sardinia, Italy.
This place is consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with its unique peach-colored sand. The sand here has a characteristic pink color due to the remains and shells of marine life, combined with coral and granite.
Despite being a famous tourist destination in Italy with captivating beauty, visitors can be fined 500 euros, equivalent to546 USD, if you set foot on the famous pink sands of Spiaggia Rosa.
However, that is just the minimum. Fines can be as high as 3,500 euros (equivalent to3,825 USD) if tourists are found stealing sand from the beach.
The ban is said to be aimed at curbing the negative effects of overtourism, as well as the discovery of cases of tourists stealing sand from Spiaggia Rosa to take home. The ban is also an attempt to restore the beach’s natural pink colour after years of damage.
In fact, the beach ban has been in place for over 30 years, but is only now being enforced more strictly. Visitors can still visit Spiaggia Rosa by boat and admire the beach from afar.
If you still want to have fun on the unique pink sand beach, visitors can choose other beaches with peach-colored sand such as Pink Beach on Komodo Island in Indonesia or Elafonisi in Greece.
