Upon hearing the news of the passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Srettha Thavisin; President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi; General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Jong Un; President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol; President of the United States of America Joe Biden; Prime Minister of Japan, Chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Kishida Fumio; Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn, President of the Senate of Australia Sue Lines and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia Milton Dick; United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis sent telegrams/letters/messages of condolence to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man, the Vietnamese people and the family of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong. The contents of the telegrams/letters/messages are as follows:
* On behalf of the Government and People of Thailand, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin sent his deepest condolences to the Government and People of Vietnam and the General Secretary's family for this great loss.
The Thai Prime Minister expressed his admiration for the General Secretary's important and exemplary contributions to the country's construction and development, as well as to strengthening the relationship between Vietnam and Thailand, especially the Declaration on upgrading the two countries' relations to a strategic partnership during the General Secretary's historic visit to Thailand in 2013.
* On behalf of the Government and People of India, the Indian leaders sent their sincere condolences for Vietnam's great loss; expressed their respect for the life and career of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The Indian leaders affirmed that they will stand side by side with the Vietnamese leaders and people, and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in this moment of sorrow.
* General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Jong Un affirmed that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has devoted his whole life to the struggle for the development of the Party and State of Vietnam and the happiness of the Vietnamese people; devoted much effort to strengthening and developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and Vietnam, in accordance with the spirit of the agreement reached at the summit talks in March 2019 in Hanoi; emphasized that the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will forever remain in the revolutionary history of the Vietnamese people and the friendly relations between the two countries.
* The telegram of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol reads: “I feel infinitely sorry to hear of the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the great leader of Vietnam.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Korea, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and people of Vietnam for losing a respected leader. The achievements and wishes of His Excellency the General Secretary for the brilliant development of Vietnam and for deepening the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea will forever remain in the minds of the people of the two countries.
* US President Joe Biden sent his deepest condolences to the Vietnamese people and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on this great loss. President Biden’s message reads: “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has been a leader in building a deep relationship between the people of Vietnam and the United States. Under his leadership, our two countries have achieved the friendship and partnership we enjoy today. His Excellency’s historic visit to the White House in 2015 was a milestone in our bilateral relationship. Thanks to his vision, during my 2023 state visit to Hanoi, Vietnam and the United States became “Comprehensive Strategic Partners,” the highest level of partnership in Vietnam’s foreign policy. Thanks to the friendship between our two countries, the people of Vietnam and the United States, as well as people across the Indo-Pacific region, today live in an environment of greater security and opportunity. That is because of his work.”
The United States and I will always remember and appreciate your commitment to healing and building a future of peace, stability and prosperity for the region and the world. We honor your legacy and join the people of Vietnam in mourning your passing.”
* The telegram of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio stated: “I am deeply shocked and saddened to receive the news of the passing of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. On behalf of the Government and People of Japan, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Government and People of Vietnam as well as the entire family of the General Secretary.”
The exchanges of opinions with the General Secretary during the meetings have become unforgettable memories for me. Once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the great contributions of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong in promoting the Vietnam - Japan relationship.
In memory of His Excellency Nguyen Phu Trong's great leadership in building close cooperative relations between Japan and Vietnam in many areas, as Comprehensive Strategic Partners, I would like to express my deepest condolences and pray for his soul to rest in peace.
* In the letter, the Australian leaders expressed their deepest condolences to the National Assembly, Government, People of Vietnam and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for this great loss; highly appreciated the affection and sincerity that the General Secretary had shown for the Vietnam-Australia relationship, especially in upgrading the relationship between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Australian leaders emphasized that the great contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the cause of building and developing a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam will always be remembered by the international community; at the same time, they affirmed that they will continue to attach importance to cultivating "strategic trust" in the Vietnam-Australia relationship as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wished.
* United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis sent their deepest condolences to the State and people of Vietnam and the family of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres shares the grief and great loss of the Vietnamese people at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The Secretary-General emphasized that as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam since 2011, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a leader who played a pivotal role in Vietnam's contemporary history. Under the leadership of the General Secretary, Vietnam continued its strong development path to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world and an important partner of the United Nations.
President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis praised the General Secretary as a dedicated leader who has devoted himself to his country for more than a decade.
* On the same day, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, and Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko sent condolences to Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
