Many households in Pa Vi commune (Meo Vac district, Ha Giang) were taken to safety by the authorities after the Ma Pi Leng pass area suffered a landslide, causing rocks and soil to spill onto the road.
On the evening of October 1, the leader of the People's Committee of Pa Vi commune said that heavy rain had lasted since last night, causing many landslides in the area, cutting off traffic, causing danger to residents and tourists.
At Ma Pi Leng Pass (Km156, National Highway 4C), heavy rain caused landslides, water from the mountains flooded and blocked traffic. Authorities quickly arrived to ensure traffic safety, and posted warning signs prohibiting vehicles from passing through from 4-7 p.m.
The Ha Giang Department of Transport also mobilized human resources, vehicles, and machinery to handle landslides. Currently, the road from near the foot of the pass to Sam Pun border gate (Meo Vac district) is still cut off.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Pa Vi commune, Meo Vac district, although the rain has stopped, households around Ma Pi Leng pass in Pa Vi and Pai Lung communes are still facing a high risk of landslides. The locality was forced to evacuate households to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
In recent days, Ha Giang has been one of the localities heavily affected by prolonged rain and floods. Preliminary statistics as of the afternoon of October 1 show that rain and floods have killed 4 people, left 2 missing, and injured 9 people due to landslides in Bac Quang district.
Heavy rains completely collapsed 10 houses, 15 houses were damaged by 50% or more. The area of rice, corn, crops, forestry trees, and fruit trees damaged was more than 180 hectares. Nearly 35 hectares of aquaculture ponds, 316 cattle and more than 4,000 poultry were swept away and buried by floodwaters.
