Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue (Hai Duong City) is 62 m wide, with asphalt concrete pavement and trees on both sides. Considered one of the most beautiful roads in Hai Duong City, this road has become an ideal place for many people to cycle for exercise. Early in the morning from 4-6 am and in the afternoon from 4-6 pm, many people gather to cycle side by side, regardless of the danger to themselves and other road users.

As a driver, Nguyen Van Thao often travels on roads, including Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue. Thao said: “Many times I was driving at high speed on the road when I suddenly encountered a group of cyclists in front of me. The cyclists even lined up in rows of 4 or 5, which was very dangerous.” According to Thao, the time when cyclists were riding at dawn when it was still dark while the group had no lights or warning signs was very dangerous, just a little lack of observation could lead to an accident.

Many times when passing Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue, Mr. D.TB (Ninh Giang) had to brake suddenly because of a group of cyclists. Although the road is very beautiful and wide, there are many large trucks and tractor-trailers traveling at high speed on the route. The group of cyclists taking up two lanes affects other road users. "Sometimes I have to follow them for a long distance to pass because they cycle very fast, and the group is quite long," said Mr. B.

Need to raise awareness

Although there have been no accidents involving cyclists lining up on Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue, cycling like this is extremely dangerous, potentially causing traffic accidents, and causing frustration for road users.

In fact, there have been many traffic accidents involving people riding exercise bikes. At 6:00 a.m. on September 10, 2022, at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao Street and Doan Ket Street in Quang Trung Ward (Hai Duong City), Mr. NVH, born in 1972 in Thai Thinh Ward (Kinh Mon), driving a car 20A-108.45 collided with Mr. VVCh. born in 1960 in Quyet Thang Street, Binh Han Ward (Hai Duong City), riding an exercise bike. As a result, Mr. Ch. died, and the car and bicycle were damaged.

Another case occurred at 9:45 p.m. on November 13, 2022 in Pham Thai Ward (Kinh Mon). Mr. NVH, born in 1967, in Linh Dong residential area, Pham Thai Ward (Kinh Mon), and his wife were cycling on Provincial Road 398. When they reached km18+200 in Pham Thai Ward, they suddenly lost control and turned left onto the road. At that moment, car 34A-462.23 driven by Mr. B.D.T., born in 1993 in Kim Lien Commune (Kim Thanh) going in the direction of That Hung - Hiep Son crashed into it. As a result, Mr. H. was injured and had to be taken to the Kinh Mon Town Medical Center for emergency treatment. Both vehicles were damaged.

Recently on November 10, a clip was posted on Facebook that happened in Thanh Mien district. A man was crossing the street exercising when he was hit by a motorbike. Some people commented that exercising in the morning on the road is very dangerous, especially at dusk when it is difficult to see.

I think that exercising to improve health is very good. However, people who exercise when jogging on the road or cycling on the road are also participating in traffic. Therefore, the first requirement is that everyone must comply with the regulations of the Road Traffic Law.
