Eight people were killed and 17 others injured in a knife attack on the evening of November 16 at the Wuxi Academy of Arts and Technology in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, eastern China, local police said.

The police arrested the perpetrator at the scene.

According to police, the 21-year-old suspect, surnamed Xu, had just finished his studies at the vocational school. He confessed to the crime, saying he had returned to the academy to vent his anger over not receiving his diploma due to failing his exams and his dissatisfaction with his internship salary.

Medical staff are currently working to treat the injured while police continue to investigate the case.

The use of violence to “take revenge on society” is becoming a serious problem in China. A few days ago, a man drove his car into a crowd outside a stadium in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, killing 35 people and injuring 43. His motive is believed to have been dissatisfaction with the division of assets after a divorce.
