Winning the Vietnam Robocon after 9 years of waiting, Hung Yen University of Technical Education doubled its joy by having two teams participating in the Asia-Pacific Robocon.
The final round of the Vietnam Robot Creation Contest - Robocon Vietnam 2024 took place on the evening of May 12 in Hanoi with the competition of two teams from Hung Yen University of Technical Education, SKH-Automation and SKH-CK1.
After 3 minutes of competition, SKH-Automation team won with 510 points, while SKH-CK1 team reached 420 points. Although only one team won, both teams were happy and hugged each other to celebrate when they both won tickets to the Asia-Pacific Robocon in August in Quang Ninh.
The organizers' prize money for the first and second place teams is 50 and 30 million VND respectively. In addition, the champion team receives 1,400 USD supported by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.
In addition to the two teams above, Hung Yen University of Technology and Education also had two other representatives winning awards: SKH-TECH (third prize) and SKH-ASIO (technology prize).
"The final result is truly a proud one, filled with a range of emotions," the school shared on Facebook.
This year's Asia-Pacific Robocon competition has the theme "Harvest Day", inspired by farming on terraced fields in Vietnam. Therefore, the competition questions in both the national and regional rounds build the robot's tasks according to the stages of rice cultivation: sowing, harvesting and transporting rice to the warehouse.
The matches last for 3 minutes. Each team has one manual robot and one automatic robot. The robot's task is to sow the bundles of seedlings in the correct position, harvest the rice, and bring them to the rice storage area and the silo area (consisting of 5 tubes). The rice is represented by balls. The robot must choose the correct red or blue ball of its team when they are mixed with the purple ball (representing the broken rice grains).
Each time a group of seedlings is successfully planted or a grain of rice is moved to the grain storage area, the team scores 10 points. Each time a grain of rice is successfully moved to the silo, the team wins 30 points.
The game ends when a team successfully completes the task of moving rice into the silos, while meeting the criteria: successfully dropping their team's rice into at least 3 silos, the silos must be full of rice and have at least two of their team's rice; their team's rice must be at the top. Otherwise, when time runs out, the team with the higher score wins.
Robocon is one of the largest engineering technology competitions for students today, organized by Vietnam Television. The competition is an environment for practicing and testing knowledge of mechanical design, control programming, electricity and many other soft skills. This year, 32 teams from universities were selected for the national final round.
Hung Yen University of Technology and Education is a familiar name in Robocon seasons but has only won the championship twice, in 2015 and this year. In 2015, the school's team also won the Asia-Pacific Robocon championship.
