The Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) was held in Cambodia on August 27, with the participation of 14 university teams representing 13 countries and territories.
The competition took place at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh.
Speaking at the event, Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra said that this is an international intellectual playground for university students from different countries to demonstrate their technological capabilities, share experiences and cultural diversity. This is also the first time Cambodia has organized this event, demonstrating Cambodia's progress in robotics technology.
According to Mr. Pang Chamnan, Director of Robocon Cambodia of National Television of Cambodia (TVK), the co-organizer of the event with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the two main competitions of this year's competition are "Flower Dropping on Angkor Wat Temple" and "Ring Throwing at the Pole".
Pairs of robots are required to complete tasks within a set time frame with the aim of improving technology as well as promoting interaction between young people with similar interests.
After a half-day competition, the team from Japan won the Robocon 2023 championship, followed by the team from Hong Kong (China), while the mainland Chinese and Vietnamese teams both ranked third.
At the event, Cambodia handed over the ABU Robocon flag to Vietnam, the country that will host the event in 2024.
