In a new indictment, both former President Trump and personal assistant Walt Nauta were charged with obstruction of justice for attempting to delete surveillance footage from the former president's Florida home in the summer of 2022.
Meanwhile, Mr. De Oliveria is accused of making false statements while answering federal agents in January 2023. De Oliveria's summons requires him to appear in federal court on July 31.
According to US media, De Oliveria was also accused of helping assistant Nauta move 30 boxes with confidential documents hidden at Mar-a-Lago after the Justice Department issued a subpoena to Mr. Trump in May.
In June, former President Trump was indicted on 37 charges related to mishandling classified documents, including those discovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during a raid on his Florida resort. The former president has pleaded not guilty to the charges and denounced the investigation as a politically motivated attack aimed at thwarting his 2024 presidential bid.
According to the indictment, the classified documents that Mr. Trump kept in boxes at his Mar-a-Lago resort included information about both U.S. and foreign defense and weapons capabilities, U.S. nuclear programs, potential vulnerabilities of the U.S. and its allies to military attack and possible retaliation plans in response to a foreign attack.
