Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thinh in Thi Xa village, Hong Hung commune (Gia Loc) is 88 years old, disabled and lives alone.

Since birth, Ms. Thinh has been deaf and mute. Due to her family's difficult circumstances, she has never gone to the doctor to find the cause. When she was young, her father left, leaving his two children to his wife to care for and raise. When the two sisters were in their 20s, their mother passed away due to a serious illness. Since then, the two sisters have relied on each other, working in agriculture to make a living.

When he reached adulthood, due to his difficult circumstances, Mr. Thinh did not start a family but lived alone. He rarely interacted with outsiders, only stayed in the neighborhood, and did not go far.

Currently, at the age of 88, Mr. Thinh lives in a level 4 house built 30 years ago, with many peeling walls that have to be patched up. Due to his old age and limited health, he can no longer farm, so he just stays at home growing vegetables and raising chickens. For many years, he has lived on subsidies for the poor aged 80 and over, with no one to take care of him. Mr. Dang Xuan Da (51 years old), his nephew, said that the family always tries to take care of him so that he can have a better life, but everyone is also struggling so they cannot help much. The recent storm No. 3 damaged his roof, and his nephews also contributed money to rebuild it for him.

Currently, he lives alone, so his family members take turns visiting him every day. When he is sick and has to go to the hospital, his grandchildren take turns taking care of him.

Mr. Thinh's house was built a long time ago and is now in serious disrepair.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien, Secretary of the Youth Union of Hong Hung Commune, in charge of labor, war invalids and social affairs, the locality always gives priority to Mr. Thinh's situation. Before storm No. 3, the commune also encouraged him to move back to his children's house to live. After his house's roof was blown off, the Gia Loc District Fatherland Front Committee in coordination with the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association visited and gave him gifts to help him overcome the damage caused by the storm. When the locality has a gift-giving and support program, he is always included in the list of recipients, but to ease his hardship, it is necessary for benefactors to help repair his house to be more solid.

All donations should be sent to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh in Thi Xa village, Hong Hung commune (Gia Loc) or her niece Dang Thi Thoan, phone number 0867.521.978; account number 9867521978, Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank).
