Thanh Phat T&T Company in Kim Thanh deliberately operates after repeatedly causing environmental pollution.

Ms. Nguyen Thi N., a resident living near Thanh Phat T&T Construction and Trading Company Limited (Thanh Phat T&T Company) said that for nearly 2 years now, the lives of her family and many surrounding residents have been severely affected by the company's plastic recycling activities. The burning smell and dust emitted from the company have caused many people to suffer from respiratory problems, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.

According to Ms. N., the factory of Thanh Phat T&T Company is often closed, surrounded by walls and covers, so it is difficult for people to detect the types of scrap collected and stored outside the company's warehouse.

According to information from the representative of the People's Committee of Ngu Phuc commune, Thanh Phat T&T Company rents a factory and warehouse to collect scrap, then recycle and produce plastic sheets. This is the factory of Mr. Tran Van Vinh's business household (Duong Mong village, Ngu Phuc commune). The factory has an area of ​​4,972.5 m2. The company will test the plastic recycling cutting and rolling system from November 2022.

In December 2022, through a report from the people, Kim Thanh District Police coordinated with Ngu Phuc Commune Police to inspect and discover that Thanh Phat T&T Company recycled plastic from scrap leather shoe soles, causing a burning smell, discharging into the environment, affecting the surrounding households. The company did not ensure fire prevention and fighting; a lot of dust was generated during the chopping, cutting, and grinding stages. The working group requested the company to temporarily suspend all production activities to verify and clarify the incident.

On December 27, 2022, Kim Thanh District Police fined Thanh Phat T&T Company 5.8 million VND and requested it to temporarily suspend operations and correct violations.

Despite being administratively sanctioned by the authorities, required to temporarily suspend operations, and forced to correct violations, Thanh Phat T&T Company continued to operate without correcting the violations.

At the end of October 2023, the People's Committee of Kim Thanh district continued to receive complaints from people about Thanh Phat T&T Company causing environmental pollution. The People's Committee of Kim Thanh district directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the district police to conduct an actual inspection at the company's factory. At the time of the inspection, the authorities discovered that the company was still importing large quantities of industrial scrap, blocking the entrance to the factory and workers were operating machinery for production. The authorities also determined that the production activities of Thanh Phat T&T Company posed a risk of fire and explosion.

On November 3, 2023, the People's Committee of Kim Thanh district issued a document suspending the operations of Thanh Phat T&T Company. However, since then, according to the feedback of local people and authorities, this company has not stopped operating.

A representative of the Kim Thanh District Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that the Kim Thanh District People's Committee and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment had invited the company's representatives many times to resolve related issues, but the company did not come.

On the morning of June 26, speaking to reporters over the phone, a representative of Thanh Phat T&T Company said that the business had stopped operating for a long time. In the next few days, the company will move all machinery and equipment out of the factory and return the factory to the lessor.

However, according to the reporter's observation on the afternoon of June 24, Thanh Phat T&T Company's activities are still taking place. Outside the warehouse, scrap is still piled up in piles higher than a person's head. Workers are still sorting waste. The risk of fire and explosion and environmental pollution is very high.
