On the days before Tet, when the spring atmosphere is bustling everywhere, it is also the time when ethnic minority workers working in Hai Duong return to their remote villages to celebrate Tet with their families.
"Spring Trips"
For many years now, on the afternoon of December 27th, workers from remote provinces working at Sumidenso Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dai An Industrial Park, Hai Duong City) have been excited to return home for Tet. They are able to return on buses organized by the company, which are both warm and affectionate, right on the occasion of Tet and spring.
At exactly 3:00 p.m. on February 6 (December 27), the first bus took workers far from home to celebrate Tet. Therefore, from 2:30 p.m., Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen and her daughter in Tuyen Quang brought their luggage to the company yard to put on the bus and waited to leave. Ms. Yen said that she has been working at Sumidenso Vietnam Co., Ltd. since 2018. For many years of working, she has received full Tet bonuses. Since the company arranged buses to take workers home for Tet, she has found it much more convenient. "We don't have to waste time booking bus tickets in advance, don't worry about buses picking up passengers in the middle of the road, forcing passengers... We feel very secure when the company buses pick us up and drop us off," Ms. Yen happily said.
This is the 5th year that Sumidenso Vietnam Co., Ltd. has organized a charity bus trip to take workers home for Tet. On this occasion, there are 21 buses taking workers to the provinces: Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa.... This year, 440 workers registered to go home for Tet, of which Dien Bien province has the most with 139 workers.
On February 7 (December 28), in many boarding houses in Tu Minh ward (Hai Duong city), Cam Phuc commune (Cam Giang), Lai Vu commune (Kim Thanh), ethnic minority workers were also busy preparing to pack their belongings to return home to celebrate Tet.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, from Na Nghiu commune, Song Ma district (Son La), currently working at LFV Metal Vietnam Co., Ltd., said jokingly: "I will bring the spring of Hai Duong to my village". The spring of Hai Duong that Mr. Ha just mentioned is not only the gifts and specialties of the East but also his wife from Ninh Giang who is 7 months pregnant.
To help workers and laborers return home to celebrate Tet, businesses in the province have made efforts to pay salaries and bonuses on time and in full. Trade unions at all levels have also carried out many activities to care for the spiritual and material lives of workers. The kindness of Hai Duong people will help many workers far from home feel warmer.
Will return to Hai Duong
Hai Duong has about 60,000 workers from other provinces, accounting for nearly 20% of the total industrial workers working in the province. Most of the workers come from the northern mountainous provinces such as Son La, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, etc.
In many enterprises in Hai Duong, the proportion of ethnic minority workers accounts for 30-40%. Returning home for Tet, many workers shared that they will soon return to Hai Duong to work.
“Hai Duong has become my second hometown. I have been working here for nearly 10 years. Now my husband and children have also returned to Hai Duong to work and live. My children are also studying here. After the Tet holiday in my hometown, on the 4th day of Tet we will return to Hai Duong,” said Ho Thi Ly, a native of Tuyen Quang.
Hai Duong has become a “fertile land” attracting many workers and laborers from other provinces to work. They have contributed to reducing the pressure of labor shortage for many enterprises in the province.
Mr. Dang Quoc Trinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Hai Duong, said that workers from other provinces, especially those from remote villages who come to Hai Duong to work, not only enjoy the same benefits as workers in the province, but are also supported with housing costs and taken care of in terms of their material and spiritual lives so that they can stay with Hai Duong enterprises for a long time.
