On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of National Day September 2 and the 54th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's death, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a memorial service for President Ho Chi Minh at the park named after him in the capital city of Havana.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung, representatives of agencies affiliated with the Embassy, officials and employees of the Vietnamese diplomatic corps, their wives and husbands, and many local people who love Vietnam and admire President Ho offered flowers and respectfully bowed in memory of Uncle Ho.
In a solemn atmosphere, Ambassador Le Thanh Tung highlighted the great historical significance of September 2, 1945 for the Vietnamese people, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence ending 80 years of colonial rule and opening a new era in the country's history.
The Ambassador affirmed the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to the country and people of Vietnam, and emphasized the significance of the legacy that President Ho Chi Minh left behind. He passed away on September 2, 1969, but will always live forever with the Vietnamese people.
For his part, Mr. Rolando Julio Rensoli, Vice President of the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers (UNEAC), emphasized that the life and career, revolutionary ideology and actions of President Ho Chi Minh, as well as the steadfastness and courage of the Vietnamese people have inspired the Cuban people.
On the same day, local newspapers published congratulatory messages from First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong; from Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; and from President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández to National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
The Cuban leaders sincerely sent their best wishes to the senior leaders and people of Vietnam; remembered President Ho Chi Minh's saying "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" and affirmed that the Vietnamese people had eliminated the domination of colonialism and imperialism, unified the country and started the path of innovation under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, achieving many successes recognized by the world.
Expressing deep pride in the historical solidarity that has been nurtured and consolidated in the common struggle for independence, freedom and development, Cuba affirmed its desire to continue to further promote the special traditional relationship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Cuban press praises Vietnam's development achievements
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2023), the Cuban press has published many articles praising the development achievements and indomitable will of the Vietnamese people.
Under the title “Vietnam: Fighting, Winning and Developing,” Granma Daily - the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of Cuba - highlighted the great historical significance of September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, eliminating more than 80 years of colonial rule and the autocratic monarchy that had existed for thousands of years, to establish a democratic-republican state.
Granma newspaper emphasized that more than 3 million Vietnamese people sacrificed their lives for independence and freedom. Vietnam has become an example of courage and indomitable strength.
