There are four players who were trained in Hai Duong in the Vietnam national U23 team competing in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship in Qatar from April 15 to May 3.
According to some football coaches, among the players competing in this year’s U23 Asian Championship, there are 4 players trained in Hai Duong. They are: Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Hong Phuc, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Quoc Viet. Two players Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Hong Phuc are from Hai Duong, Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Quoc Viet are from Hanoi and Hai Phong.
Coach Tran Huu Hung (U13 HADUWACO Hai Duong) said that Nguyen Quoc Viet is playing in the striker position of U23 Vietnam. Quoc Viet trained in Hai Duong from U10, then transferred to The Cong Viettel at U14, then joined Hoang Anh Gia Lai after U15 and is currently playing for this team. Khuat Van Khang is also playing in the attack of U23 Vietnam, trained in Hai Duong from U11 then transferred to The Cong Viettel and is currently playing for this team. In the second match of the group stage of the U23 Asian Championship against Malaysia on April 20, Khuat Van Khang had a beautiful free kick to open the score in the 39th minute, helping U23 Vietnam win 2-0 and secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Nguyen Hong Phuc (born in 2003) is from Nam Sach, Nguyen Manh Hung (born in 2005) is from Hai Duong city, currently playing in the defender position for U23 Vietnam. Both of them trained in Hai Duong since childhood, after U13 they moved to The Cong Viettel. Hong Phuc is currently playing for this club, while Manh Hung plays for Binh Phuoc Club in the national first division on loan.
Instead of mostly developing from the Hai Duong Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center like before, Hai Duong players now practice at many youth football training centers before joining the national teams, so it is difficult to determine exactly how many players from Hai Duong are playing for the Vietnam U23 team.
The 2024 AFC U23 Championship has now determined the 8 teams that will enter the quarterfinals, in addition to the 2 representatives of Southeast Asia, Vietnam and Indonesia, there are 6 other teams including: Korea, Japan, Iraq, UAE, Uzbekistan and host Qatar.
The next match of the Vietnam team will be against U23 Iraq at 0:30 on April 27 (Vietnam time), at Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar.
