Stocks fluctuate wildly

According to VnExpress November 20, 2023 20:40

VN-Index was in red when opening on November 20, at one point falling nearly 20 points, but rebounded in the afternoon session before falling back to near reference at the close of the session.

Stocks closed the first session of this week with an increase of more than 2 points, less than 0.3%. If only considering the points, the fluctuations of today's session are similar to the previous tight trading sessions. However, the fluctuation range of VN-Index is up to nearly 30 points, when the trend continuously changes direction.

The market opened today with red dominating, as investor sentiment was affected by information related to the Van Thinh Phat case. Concerns about the impact on the financial system and the banking industry made investors more cautious. Selling pressure spread across key groups such as banking and real estate, causing the VN-Index to retreat to near 1,080 points, at times falling nearly 16 points compared to the reference.

However, when selling pressure slowed down at the "hard support" zone near 1,080, buying power began to regain the upper hand. Bottom-fishing demand quickly entered at low prices, helping many stocks narrow their decline, and green gradually appeared more on the board. In the afternoon session, the situation completely changed compared to the beginning of the hour, when investors were somewhat more enthusiastic. The HoSE index climbed above 1,110 points, up more than 10 points compared to the reference and more than 25 points compared to the bottom zone early in the morning.

However, the situation changed once again when the sellers returned. While many investors expected the market to enter a longer recovery, some decided to sell at high prices to protect their results.

VN-Index turned down, closing the session up just over 2 points (0.22%), to 1,103.66 points. VN30-Index slightly decreased below the reference, closing at 1,102.85 points. On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, HNX-Index and UPCOM-Index both remained green with an amplitude of less than 1%.

Market liquidity was not too sudden despite strong fluctuations. Trading value on HoSE recorded nearly 17,000 billion VND, compared to more than 24,000 billion VND at the end of last week. Liquidity decreased mainly in the afternoon session. The VN30 group today only traded nearly 6,000 billion VND.

Red still dominated at the close, with the HoSE floor having over 300 stocks decreasing, compared to 203 stocks increasing. In the VN30 group, the number of stocks decreasing was also higher with a ratio of 14:10.

Stocks fluctuated in opposite directions, with the main drivers being securities and real estate stocks.

In VN30, SSI was the best gainer with a margin of nearly 3%, followed by GVR increasing by 2.8%, TPB, VIC, HDB, VPB added more than 1%, BID, HPG, VCB closed above reference. On the contrary, MWG closed down over 2%, MBB, VRE, SAB decreased over 1%.

In the mid-cap group, securities stocks traded positively. BSI and EVF hit the ceiling, CTS increased by nearly 6%, VND and VIX added more than 5%. Some real estate and industrial park real estate stocks also closed the session in a positive state.
