As one of more than 4,000 high school students in Hai Duong attending the admissions and career counseling program held at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong City) in early March, Pham Quang Hai Binh, a student at Hong Quang High School, had a lot of useful information for himself.

“Before coming to the program, I was confused about the economic majors of Hanoi National University, National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, Banking Academy… After the program, I decided to choose the National University. I will carefully study the enrollment plan and the second degree of this school,” Binh said.

At admission and career counseling programs, students are provided with answers and equipped with many skills to choose a major and career for the future.

Similarly, Nguyen Quang Truong An, a 12th grader at Tran Phu High School (Chi Linh) is also studying the electrical and automation majors at Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hanoi University of Industry. After careful research, in line with his own abilities and strengths, An decided to set his goal of studying at Hanoi University of Industry.

“I have participated in many admission and career counseling programs at my school and several other high schools in Hanoi. The programs not only helped me and my friends grasp the new points, important changes in the university and college admission regulations in 2025, information about the exam, and regulations for the high school graduation exam in 2025, but also received in-depth advice on the careers of interest so that we can make the right decision,” An said.

As for Vu Minh Hien, a 12th grade student at Doan Thuong High School (Gia Loc), the career counseling session at the school on March 16 had experts from the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong, and businessmen who gave him and his friends a lot of useful information, including experience and skills in choosing a major and career for the future.

“The career counseling and guidance sessions at the school as well as at some other schools in the province helped me feel more confident in my decision to choose a major. From there, I will have a more specific and effective study plan,” Hien said.

Early career orientation is important for high school students. To meet this need, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong and many high schools in the province have been promoting career counseling and guidance for students.

In particular, the admissions and career counseling program jointly organized by the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted in early March and Doan Thuong High School on March 16 attracted a large number of 12th graders and parents in the whole province to participate. As the high school graduation exam is approaching, along with many new points of this year's exam and the university and college admission regulations in 2025, early career counseling and orientation for students is increasingly important and has practical significance.

Career orientation activities are also extended beyond the school with a variety of activities such as experiencing “A day as a student” at some universities and colleges in the province. This helps students have a more diverse perspective on careers, increasing their knowledge and skills before entering a new learning environment.

Admissions and career counseling programs for students play an important role in preparing them for university, college, and more broadly, the future labor market. These programs will help students improve their career decision-making skills, increase their confidence, and identify specific goals and directions for themselves. However, many students are also concerned about choosing the right career to avoid information overload.

The workshop on the journey of entrepreneurship and innovation at Doan Thuong High School provided students with a lot of useful information.

According to teacher Vu Van Khoat, Principal of Doan Thuong High School, students need to base on their own abilities, social trends and actual family conditions to choose appropriate learning aspirations.

“To avoid information overload, students should base on their abilities and career trends to choose a major before choosing a school. Because school is where they study for 4-5 years, but the major they study will follow them throughout their lives. If they choose the right major, it will help them reach the pinnacle of that major or career. However, choosing a major first does not mean skipping the school. Even with the same major, students should strive to get into the best or most suitable school, not thinking that any school is fine,” said Mr. Khoat.

Many parents also accompany their children to admission and career counseling programs.

Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong, said that early career orientation will help students realize whether their passion, interests and abilities are suitable for the job or not, thereby making an accurate decision about their future career. Thereby, helping to reduce the situation of dropping out of school or working in the wrong field or profession later. Choosing the right field or profession will help students develop more easily and succeed in their work.

“To choose an effective career, students need to receive career counseling and specific guidance that is appropriate to reality and social trends,” said Mr. Hung.
