The headquarters of the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province suddenly caught fire fiercely at noon, causing panic among many people.
At around 12 o'clock, a fire broke out in the lobby of the provincial committee headquarters. After about 15 minutes, the fire flared up violently with smoke. Fire prevention and fighting forces mobilized many vehicles to the scene to put out the fire. The road leading to the gate of the provincial committee was blocked to assist in fire fighting.
Secretary of the Binh Phuoc Provincial Party Committee Ton Ngoc Hanh said the fire was put out very quickly, about 15 minutes after it started. The burnt room was located in a corner of the lobby, right at the entrance, usually used to receive international guests, and could accommodate about 40 people. The room had just been redecorated and had new carpets installed for Tet.
According to Ms. Hanh, it could be due to new carpeting or a problem with the electrical wiring that caused the short circuit.
When the fire broke out, there were still a few officers upstairs going down, so the unit evacuated immediately. "Because the burning panels caused a lot of smoke, after putting out the fire, we checked everything again, everyone was safe and unaffected. The room was covered in smoke, the carpet was burnt, and the wood was stained with smoke," said Ms. Hanh.
