Many ChatGPT users were unable to use the service on the afternoon of June 4, while OpenAI has not yet announced the cause of the problem.
Ngoc Hung, a communications specialist in Ho Chi Minh City, said that since around 2 p.m., he has been unable to ask questions on OpenAI's chatbot, despite using a monthly subscription package.
"The button to create a new command almost doesn't work. I click it many times but it only works sometimes. But when I finish typing the command, the application still doesn't follow the request," Hung said and had to use another AI to serve the job.
Phuong Anh (Hanoi) also said that she often uses ChatGPT for creative work, but the application "froze" continuously this afternoon, making it almost impossible to execute any given command.
"After typing the prompt, ChatGPT spun for nearly a minute and then displayed a 'timed out' message, asking me to try again," she said. When accessing the GPT app store, the system reported "The server is having problems. Please try again later."
ChatGPT issues have been reported in multiple regions around the world. On the Internet outage tracker DownDetector, reports related to OpenAI’s service started at 1:30 p.m., spiked at 2 p.m., and have yet to return to normal.
OpenAI has not yet announced the incident, but its product status page also confirmed the system was down, with the message "ChatGPT is unavailable for some users".
At 4pm, the system reported "problem identified" and in the process of being fixed.
