To keep eggs fresh for the longest time, you should put them in a box and place them on the top shelf of the refrigerator.

It is well known that storing eggs in the refrigerator will keep them fresh much longer than storing them at room temperature. Specifically, a fresh egg stored at room temperature will lose quality after a few days and should be used within 1-3 weeks. Meanwhile, eggs stored in the refrigerator will stay fresh for at least twice as long.

However, each location in the refrigerator will have a different temperature, only when we understand that can we ensure the best freshness of food. Normally, many people will store eggs in the refrigerator door because there is usually a shelf available to store eggs. However, this is not the most suitable place to store eggs.

Because the door is the warmest part of the refrigerator and also the place where the temperature fluctuates the most. Meanwhile, if you want eggs to be preserved for a long time, the temperature needs to be stable and suitable.

“To keep eggs well, you need to have the right and stable temperature. That is why you should put them in the middle of the fridge instead of on the door,” said British expert Mr. Beasley.

The Agricultural Society of London (UK) said that eggs should be stored at a stable temperature and always below 20 degrees. In addition, the association also recommends keeping eggs in the carton to avoid them absorbing odors from other foods.

This is because the eggshell is covered with 17,000 tiny air holes. Eggshells are porous and can allow oxygen and other bacteria from the outside environment to penetrate the shell. However, you don't need to worry too much because bacteria usually don't thrive in cold environments.

Furthermore, the average temperature of a refrigerator is around 4°C, which can inhibit food-damaging bacteria such as Salmonella or E.coli. Therefore, if any bacteria come into contact with the eggshell in the refrigerator, they will not grow and spread to the egg yolk.

In general, if you want to preserve eggs for the longest time, you should put them in a box and place them on the top shelf of the refrigerator. In addition, to keep eggs fresh longer, you should also pay attention to the following:

- Wash eggs before storing: After buying eggs, you should use a soft, wet cloth to wipe them clean before putting them in a box and storing them in the refrigerator to avoid poultry droppings remaining on the shell, which can be unsanitary and even cause illness.

- Place eggs upright, large end up, small end down to keep eggs fresh longer, yolk does not stick to the eggshell.

- Do not let the eggs touch each other.

- If eggs are stored in the refrigerator, they should be kept in the refrigerator. Do not take them out and leave them in the open air, as this will cause them to spoil faster.

- You can apply a layer of vegetable oil such as canola oil, sesame oil, etc. on the eggshell. This way, the eggs can be kept for up to 36 days.
