A 10-year-old boy in Hanoi had to be hospitalized on Tet holiday due to being bitten by a dog, leaving him with many wounds all over his body.

Today, February 2, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases (Hanoi) received a boy named BA (10 years old, in Hanoi) with many injuries on his body, including his temples, thighs, arms and legs.

While going with his family to celebrate Tet, a big dog attacked the child. The wounds had obvious teeth marks and were so serious that his parents immediately took BA to the emergency room.

After examination, doctors performed 9 stitches on the large open wounds and took care of the patient's remaining wounds.

Doctor Pham Van Tinh, Department of Orthopedics and Spinal Neurology, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said that the child will be closely monitored for 5-7 days to check for signs of infection such as swelling, heat, redness, pain, and pus.

The hospital dispatched staff from the Vaccination Department to inject anti-rabies serum, rabies vaccine, and tetanus vaccine immediately after the wounds were treated.

Doctors say that when bitten by a dog, people need to give first aid on the spot by examining the wound and washing it with soap and water for at least 5 minutes, even if the skin is only scratched.

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after first aid. Wash the wound under running water to remove all germs, wash gently without rubbing hard.

Disinfectants such as 70% alcohol or iodine solution can be used to disinfect the wound. These will eliminate harmful bacteria to a certain extent. Cover the wound with a clean cloth and bandage it loosely.

After that, the victim should go to the vaccination center to get a preventive injection against rabies. People bitten by dogs can be injected with anti-rabies serum if the bite is on the head, face, neck, areas with many nerves such as fingertips, toes, genitals, deep and multiple wounds.
