For the first time in the winter of 2024-2025, frost appeared in large numbers on high mountain peaks such as Phia Oac (Cao Bang), Lao Than (Lao Cai), and Ta Xua (Yen Bai).
On the afternoon of January 11, Ta Xua peak, 2,865 m high, in Ban Cong commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai, had frost covering the forest.

On the top of Lao Than mountain, Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai, at an altitude of 2,860 m, ice also appeared. Water droplets froze on tree branches at an altitude of 2,500 m to the top of the mountain.
On the afternoon of January 11, many tourist groups came to Lao Than peak to take photos and "hunt" for ice.
The leader of the People's Committee of Y Ty commune said that he had asked villages and hamlets to inform people to proactively keep the elderly and children warm; at the same time, cover barns and store food for livestock and poultry.

A thin layer of ice also appeared at the Phia Oac peak area, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province, at an altitude of nearly 2,000 m.
