Poland strengthens border security with Belarus and Russia

Poland plans to strengthen border controls with Russia and Belarus by setting up new barriers such as tunnels and trenches to prevent irregular migration, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on May 13.

Poland's defense minister said the measures were also aimed at strengthening the country's borders, adding that the army was supporting border guards.

According to Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland allocates the budget for border protection activities in the context of the wave of migration to this region currently at an all-time high.

Poland is taking steps to strengthen border controls after an unusual surge in migration from 2022, especially from Belarus.

Poland has spent more than $400 million to build a 5.5-meter-high border fence system, which will be completed by June 2022.
