Ms. Harris officially became the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.

After the official voting results took place on the evening of August 20 (morning of August 21, Hanoi time), US Vice President Kamala Harris was approved as the Democratic Party's candidate for the November election.

The vote took place at the United Center Indoor Sports Center within the framework of the Democratic National Convention taking place in Chicago, Illinois (USA).

Ms. Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the next Vice Presidential candidate, did not attend the convention on August 20 because they were attending a rally in Milwauke, Wisconsin.

In a video message after officially accepting the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, Vice President Kamala Harris stated: "We are honored to be nominated by the people. This is a campaign driven by the people, and together we will chart a new course forward."

In reality, the proceedings at the Democratic National Convention are largely ceremonial.

Previously, in an email and phone vote conducted earlier this month, Ms. Harris had enough votes to become the Democratic Party's candidate for the next US presidential election.

At the convention, the state delegates again announced their decision through a symbolic vote.

According to the program, Ms. Harris will give a speech to delegates on August 22 - the last day of the convention.

Ms. Harris, 59 years old, is the first woman of color to be selected as the presidential candidate of a major party in the United States.

She became the Democratic Party's representative after President Joe Biden announced he would stop running for election on July 21.
