Brother dies, sister in critical condition after eating toad meat

On November 20, a leader of Ea Knuec commune (Krong Pak district, Dak Lak) confirmed that a tragic incident had just occurred in the commune after two children ate toad meat.

According to initial information, at noon on November 19, because her parents were away, YTN (11 years old) cooked toad meat for herself and her 5-year-old sister to eat.

After eating, both brothers showed signs of difficulty breathing and cyanosis and were discovered by relatives and taken to the emergency room at the Central Highlands General Hospital.

However, N. died that evening, and his younger sister is receiving intensive treatment at the hospital.

It is known that the families of the victims are very poor, so a unit supported them with a coffin for 0 VND and the local government also visited and supported the funeral.

Experts warn that toad meat, especially toad eggs, contains very strong toxins. Therefore, people should not use toad meat as food to avoid unfortunate consequences. In case of accidental ingestion or signs of poisoning, the victim should be quickly taken to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.

In addition, local authorities need to strengthen propaganda and education on prevention of poisoning caused by natural toxins in food. In particular, people are advised not to collect, catch, trade, or use animals and plants that are at risk of causing poisoning such as wild mushrooms, strange fruits and vegetables, strange insects, toads, puffer fish, etc. to prevent the risk of poisoning.
