The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has just officially announced the principles of the draw for the 16 teams participating in the Final Round of the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship.
According to AFC's seeding classification, Vietnam is in Pot 2 along with Tajikistan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Pot 1 includes host Thailand, Japan, Iran and Uzbekistan. Pot 3 includes Iraq, Bahrain, South Korea and Myanmar. Pot 4 includes Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Australia and China.
The Vietnam Football Federation said that 16 teams from 4 seed groups will be drawn into 4 groups, each group of 4 teams. The draw will be conducted in order from group 4 to group 1. Host Thailand is assigned code 1 in group A (A1), so teams Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan will be drawn into positions B1, C1, D1.
The 2024 AFC Futsal Championship will take place in Thailand from April 17 to April 28, 2024. The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group. The top two teams in each of the four groups (8 teams) will advance to the quarterfinals.
The four winning teams in the Quarterfinals will advance to the Semifinals to select the two winning teams to advance to the final to compete for the championship.
The top 4 teams with the best results at the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship (ie the 4 semi-finalists) will be registered for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Since Uzbekistan is the host of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup, if the country's team is among the Top 4 teams with the best results at the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship, the 4 losing teams in the Quarterfinals will compete in the play-off round to determine the 5th Asian ticket to the World Futsal Championship.
The Vietnamese futsal team has qualified for the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship as Group D winners after winning all three matches against South Korea, Mongolia and Nepal in the qualifying round. The goal of coach Diego Giustozzi and his team at the finals is to compete for a ticket to the Futsal World Cup for the third time in history.
As planned, the draw ceremony for the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship will be held on the afternoon of December 14 at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
