The press conference of the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival took place on the morning of October 30 in Hanoi under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong.
Accordingly, the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival will take place from November 21-25 in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province with the slogan "Building a Vietnamese film industry rich in national identity, modern and humane".
This is the first time Da Lat city, Lam Dong province has hosted a Film Festival coinciding with the occasion of the "city of thousands of flowers" celebrating its 130th anniversary. The event brings a favorable opportunity for Lam Dong to introduce to tourists and friends the beautiful, dreamy city of Da Lat with many amazing natural landscapes, mild climate, friendly and hospitable people. According to the Organizing Committee, from 31 feature films, 82 documentaries, 23 scientific films, and 43 animated films registered to participate, the Organizing Committee established a Council to select films for the Competition Film Program and the Panorama Film Program.
There are 91 films selected for the Competition Film Program including: 16 feature films, 31 documentaries, 19 scientific films, 25 animated films. As for feature films, some of them include: "Hoa jasmine"; "Hong Ha nu si"; "Em va Trinh", "Dat rung phuong nam", "Nguoi vo cuoi", "Dao, pho va piano"; "Nha ba Nu", "Tro tan gloos"...
There are 56 films selected for the Panorama Film Program including: 14 feature films, 20 documentaries, 4 scientific films, and 18 animated films.
There is also a Vietnamese Film Program set in Da Lat through the ages. Participating are feature films set in Da Lat selected to be shown at Cinestar cinema, Da Lat city and Cinestar cinema Duc Trong district.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said: This festival has a large number of films competing in many genres. Feature films include films commissioned by the State and private films. Documentary and scientific films also include films made by students of the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. The jury consists of prestigious film artists, film activists, journalists, etc. with high professional qualifications and are not the main members of the film crews competing in the genre in which they participate.
The opening and closing ceremonies of the Film Festival will take place at Lam Vien Square, Da Lat City. Within the framework of the Film Festival, there will be a Welcome Film Week in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City in November. The exhibition "Da Lat - Inspiring Cinema" hosted and organized by the Vietnam Film Institute is divided into 3 themes. These are: "Da Lat - Inspiring Cinema" displaying images of films filmed in Da Lat; "130 years of founding Da Lat - City of thousands of flowers" displaying photos of Da Lat city landscapes and "Vietnamese cinema posters through history": The exhibition introduces posters of films through the decades of Vietnamese cinema's construction and development.
There will be two seminars: "Copyright protection in the development of the film industry" chaired by the Copyright Office; "Some key issues in building the Vietnamese film industry". Films participating in the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival will be screened at Cinestar cinema in Da Lat city and Duc Trong district. The Organizing Committee will organize a number of outdoor film screenings at the Da Lat Military Academy, Lam Vien Square in Da Lat city and the districts of Lac Duong, Duc Trong, Lam Ha, Dam Rong... During the screenings, the film crew will debut and interact with the audience.
The Film Festival has 2 exchanges between artists and audiences who are students of Da Lat University; students of Lam Dong Ethnic Boarding School. The Organizing Committee also invites delegates and guests to participate in tours at Da Lat Plateau tourist site; Fresh Garden agricultural tourist site and Vegetable and Flower Farm.
The Vietnam Film Festival is a national cultural and artistic event, honoring cinematic works and artists in cinematographic creation activities. This is also a practical activity to implement the conclusions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 2021 National Cultural Conference, implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; celebrating the 78th anniversary of the Cultural Sector's Traditional Day; 70 years since President Ho Chi Minh signed the decree establishing Vietnam Revolutionary Cinema. The event continues to affirm the position and role of cinema in the country's cultural and artistic life, introducing to the audience cinematic works rich in genres, themes, and forms of expression, reflecting multi-dimensional perspectives on life, aiming to build a Vietnamese film industry rich in national identity, modernity and humanity.
