"The Taste of Things," a film by French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung, was screened at the Gala section of the Tokyo Film Festival and stars Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel.
During his presentation at the Tokyo Film Festival, French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung shared about the film."The Taste Of Things"(adapted from the novel)"The Life and Passion of Dodin-Bouffant Gourmet"(1924), a culinary-themed romance, won the Best Director Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
"The Taste of Things"is a film screened at the Gala section of the Tokyo Film Festival and stars two famous actors, Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel.
The film tells the story of a relationship between a chef and a gourmet, set in 1885. Love and cuisine are combined in this story, based on a novel by Marcel Rouff and chosen by France as its representative for the international Oscars.
Director Tran Anh Hung said the project was conceived two decades ago when Binoche and Magimel were romantically involved in real life. He revealed that he had "known Binoche for a long time" and when he approached her about the role, "Binoche immediately said yes." He described the atmosphere on set between the two actors - who share a daughter but separated in 2003 - as "surprising."
During the presentation, Tran Anh Hung shared that he always wanted to make a film about cuisine. He believes that cooking is an art form and he also wanted to create a work about the love of an elderly couple.
In addition, Tran Anh Hung also emphasized the influence of his mother's kitchen on the film. He shared that he grew up in a working-class family, and in his memory, the kitchen was the only thing he considered beautiful.
