The five-day exercise (until August 23) involves about 200 aircraft, including South Korean F-15K, FA-50 and KF-16 fighters as well as US F-16 and A-10 fighters.
According to Yonhap, the South Korean Air Force announced on August 20 that it and the US have launched a large-scale joint exercise with the participation of five fighter squadrons to enhance operational and response capabilities on multiple fronts.
The five-day exercise (until August 23) will involve about 200 aircraft, including South Korean F-15K, FA-50 and KF-16 fighters as well as US F-16 and A-10 fighter jets, the South Korean Air Force said.
This event marked the first time that multiple fighter squadrons from the two allied countries participated in round-the-clock air exercises in air, land and sea categories.
The 120-hour exercise included simulated enemy aircraft intrusions and exercises to improve air defense counterattack, air interdiction and air warning capabilities.
The South Korean Air Force said the event was held at the same time as the Ulchi Freedom Shield, an annual summer exercise between South Korea and the United States that will last for 11 days until August 29.
