5 points candidates need to note about the 2024 high school graduation exam

At the 2024 Admissions and Career Counseling Day held on March 17, Dr. Le My Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), gave 5 pieces of advice for candidates to be confident and complete the 2024 high school graduation exam well.

Firstly, students need to actively review and closely follow the content taught at school and in textbooks. At the same time, students can practice by doing exam questions based on the sample exam structure issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. When they memorize knowledge and test-taking skills, they will confidently participate in the exam.

Second, the 2024 High School Graduation Exam Regulations clearly state: Students taking the high school graduation exam must register for 4 out of 5 exams in this exam. These include math, literature, foreign language, and 1 of 2 combined exams of natural sciences and social sciences. However, students who study English can still register for other foreign languages ​​according to the Ministry's regulations such as: French, Chinese, German, etc.

Third, for independent candidates who only want to take 1-2 components of the combined exam, they need to listen carefully to the regulations on when to enter the exam room and how long to wait for the exam. Independent candidates can choose a component subject in the combined exam for university admission but cannot choose a component subject of both combined exams at the same time.

Fourth, candidates need to keep their accounts confidential for the purpose of taking the exam and applying for admission because each candidate is only given one account. During the data update process, candidates can ask for help from schools because one of the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training is that the exam units must support candidates.

Fifth, candidates need to read the regulations carefully and pay attention to the responsibilities of candidates when taking the exam. Because in the 2023 high school graduation exam, 41 candidates brought phones into the exam room and were suspended from the exam. This is very regrettable when some candidates had to stop taking the exam just because they forgot and did not understand the regulations.

Regarding the exam questions, Dr. Le My Phong said that this year, the exam committee not only includes leaders of departments and divisions under the Ministry of Education and Training but also leaders of the Departments of Education and Training. This personnel adjustment is to make the exam questions suitable for students, ensuring the objectives of the exam are to consider high school graduation and assess the quality of general education.

If this year's candidates do not pass the high school graduation exam or do not reach the score required for university admission, they can retake the high school graduation exam in 2025. The exam questions will be appropriate to the program they are studying.
