YouTube's experimental feature will ban users from watching videos if they get 3 "sticks" for using an ad-blocking app.

On the Reddit forum, member Reddit_n_Me shared a screenshot of a YouTube notification on his computer, warning that the ability to play videos on the platform would be locked if he watched 3 videos while using an ad blocker.

"It looks like you're using an ad blocker. Video playback will be blocked unless YouTube is listed as an exception, or the ad blocker is turned off," the screenshot reads.

Based on the image, users have two options: allow ads to appear on YouTube or try YouTube Premium, a paid service plan to remove ads.

According to WinFuture, it is likely that Google is testing this policy for a small group of users. Another question is how to detect ad-blocking users, as well as the response of ad-blocking app developers.

In the comments section, many members expressed their opposition if this feature was widely applied. Some opinions accepted watching mid-roll ads, but only if the ads were short and the video duration was not too long.

Ads have been around on YouTube for a long time. This policy helps increase revenue and pay content creators, helping users watch videos for free.

YouTube notice warns of video playback disabled if ad blocker is used

YouTube said on May 17 that it would soon add 30-second “non-skippable” ads for featured content. That doesn’t mean shorter ads will disappear entirely.

YouTube's increasing abuse of advertising by increasing the duration and frequency of its appearance has made many people unhappy. Meanwhile, the situation of fraudulent advertising and false content is being resolved quite slowly.

According to Android Authority, many people find ways to skip ads by using third-party video viewing apps, installing ad blockers, or paying for YouTube Premium.

Google has not commented on the image, but it has taken a number of steps to combat ad blocking, including shutting down apps like YouTube Vanced.
