After a photo with false information about a student meal in the highlands of Quang Nam spread rapidly online, on September 12, the People's Committee of Nam Giang district stepped in and determined that the photo was taken in 2019.
Specifically, through verification, the People's Committee of Nam Giang district determined that the photo of the white lunch box with rat meat was taken in December 2019 at the Dung hamlet school (Thanh My town, Nam Giang district).
At that time, Thanh My Kindergarten organized the activity "Tet in my hometown", including a traditional food festival. Teachers and students organized a competition to prepare and display traditional dishes of ethnic groups living in the area.
To make the event more diverse, teachers encouraged parents to bring traditional local foods and dishes to prepare and display. One parent brought a lunch box and wild rat meat - a rustic and familiar dish of the local people.
Finding it interesting, a teacher took a photo as a souvenir, and then recently this person shared this photo in a group. From here the photo was spread and conveyed incorrectly from the original content.

"The People's Committee of Nam Giang district always pays attention to investing in education. The vast majority of preschool and primary school students in the district enjoy boarding benefits. Lunches are arranged by schools for students with full nutrition.
Parents who do not let their children eat at the boarding school will receive money and have their children provided with full lunch. There is no such thing as the school or parents organizing a "rat meat meal" as the pictures posted online" - Mr. A Viet Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Giang district, affirmed.
Mr. Son also said that in the life of the people, wild rat and squirrel meat is a rustic and favorite dish, not only used in daily meals but also used to entertain at parties. Therefore, eating rice with rat meat (if any) is also a very normal thing.
After the incident, the Nam Giang District People's Committee requested schools to review and pay more attention to the conditions of students, ensuring adequate meals and regimes at boarding facilities. The district also assigned the police to continue to verify, conclude and strictly handle the collectives and individuals involved in the incident.
