At the first quarter press conference held by the Ministry of Public Security on the morning of March 26, representatives of the Criminal Police Department, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention provided information about the case of the female Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Nhon Trach District (Dong Nai) who was scammed out of about 170 billion VND.
According to Major General To Cao Lanh, Deputy Director of the Criminal Police Department, after receiving information about the incident, Dong Nai Provincial Police quickly started to organize an investigation, and at the same time reported to functional units of the Ministry of Public Security such as the Cyber Security Department, the Criminal Police Department, etc. to actively participate.
"The case has been prosecuted and is under investigation. The results of the investigation will be announced promptly," said the Deputy Director of the Criminal Police Department.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05) said that fraudulent activities in cyberspace are not new but are increasingly sophisticated.
Previously, authorities focused on prevention on social networks, but recently a number of fraudulent applications have appeared.
Department A05 is focusing on educating people to raise awareness of this type of crime.
Previously, on March 22, Dong Nai Provincial Police coordinated with professional units to investigate the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang Huong, Chairwoman of Nhon Trach District People's Committee (Dong Nai), whose bank account was logged into by a high-tech fraud group and a large sum of money was stolen.
Sources confirmed that the amount of money the high-tech fraud group withdrew from Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang Huong's account was about 170 billion VND.
At that time, Mr. Vo Tan Duc, Acting Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, said that the case was being investigated and clarified by Dong Nai Provincial Police. The exact amount of money lost has not yet been announced by the provincial police.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang Huong (born in 1973) currently holds the position of Deputy Secretary of Nhon Trach District Party Committee, Chairman of Nhon Trach District People's Committee (Dong Nai) for the 2021-2025 term.
