Coach Gong Oh Kyun of U23 Vietnam and assistant Lee Young Jin of the Vietnam national team were present at Thong Nhat Stadium to watch the match. In the first minutes, the away team Hoang Anh Gia Lai dominated the game with more than 70% of the ball possession time. Tuan Anh, Van Toan and Minh Vuong were constant threats to the Ho Chi Minh City defense.

After several missed opportunities, Hoang Anh Gia Lai finally scored the opening goal 1-0 in the 29th minute. From a corner kick on the right wing, a Hoang Anh Gia Lai player made a cross and goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung (Ho Chi Minh City) rushed out incorrectly, creating an opportunity for striker Washington Brandao to head into an empty net to score.

In the following minutes, Hoang Anh Gia Lai continued to play aggressively and created many scoring opportunities. In the 37th minute, Vu Van Thanh dribbled skillfully and was brought down by defender Duong Van Khoa (Ho Chi Minh City) in the penalty area. Referee Ngo Duy Lan immediately pointed to the 11m mark.

It was Vu Van Thanh who defeated goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung on the 11m mark to score the goal to raise the score to 2-0 for Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

Entering the second half, Ho Chi Minh City proactively attacked to find an equalizer and they created several dangerous situations for goalkeeper Duong Van Loi (Hoang Anh Gia Lai). However, Hoang Vu Samson, Ngo Tung Quoc… could not take advantage of them successfully.

The most regrettable situation was in the 50th minute, Hoang Vu Samson was given a golden opportunity but this striker missed the ball when he was about...5m from Hoang Anh Gia Lai's goal!

The final minutes of the match were quite exciting with many dangerous attacks from both teams but no more goals were scored. In the end, Hoang Anh Gia Lai won 2-0 to temporarily rise to 6th place, while Ho Chi Minh City remained in 10th place.
