In recent days, the trend of "turning every roof into a national flag" has been enthusiastically responded by young people with the message of spreading love for the homeland and country. Responding to this patriotic trend, not only simply drawing the national flag, Mr. Hoang Gia Luc painted the picture "Three big hearts" of the Vietnamese people with the image of President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the roof of his house in Xa Son village, Quang Thanh commune (Kinh Mon).

Mr. Luc started working on this painting on August 14. He spent 2 hours a day painting, and by the afternoon of August 17, the painting “Three Big Hearts” on his roof was completed. The painting covers an area of 35 square meters, 7 meters long, and 5 meters wide. To complete this painting, he used up 14.2 kg of paint.

Images of President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong are painted in black on a red background, above is the image of a hammer and sickle and a five-pointed gold star. Below is the bold text: “Eternal glory belongs to the cultured and heroic Vietnamese people! Long live the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam! Long live the Socialist Republic of Vietnam! Great President Ho Chi Minh lives forever in our cause!”

He chose the red background of the painting as the common background, which is both the color of the national flag and also represents the enthusiasm in the heart of the "Three big hearts" who are devoted to the people and the country. All the details in the painting were properly referenced, aligned, and drawn in the correct proportions.

Sharing the reason for drawing this picture, Mr. Luc said that he responded to the patriotic movement but did not like to follow the majority, he wanted to express his patriotism through the images of the nation's leaders. "Drawing great people or leaders must be done carefully, showing solemnity and respect," Mr. Luc said.

He himself is the Deputy Secretary of the Commune Youth Union, Secretary of the Party Cell, Head of the Village, and a social worker, so he has to be even more careful, how to present the painting as a billboard, propaganda poster so that many people can access and know about it, spreading the spirit of patriotism.

Before starting to draw this giant painting, he had to sketch a 25 x 35 cm drawing on the computer. "The images of Uncle Trong and Uncle Giap on the internet do not have vector templates like Uncle Ho, so I had to download the real pictures, then trace them to get the main focus so that it is most distinctive, so that people can recognize it right away. Then calculate the proportions to draw a 5 x 7 m painting, estimate the positions of the pictures and words, and then start working on it," Luc shared about the process of making the painting.

According to him, when he first started drawing directly, he encountered many difficulties compared to drawing on paper. Because drawing on a large corrugated iron roof, he could not step back far enough to see the whole picture while drawing, and the corrugated iron surface was not flat, so at first he was a bit confused. However, he took advantage of drawing a little each day, and after 4 days, his painting "Three Big Hearts" was completed.

To protect the painting, after completion, he painted it with a clear coat to keep its color durable. "Paintings painted outdoors cannot avoid rain and sun, but painting on the roof is less affected by humans, ensuring the highest respect for the image of three big hearts," he said.

Mr. Luc also shared that his initial idea was to paint the painting on the wall of the cultural house so that everyone could see and take pictures. However, he realized that it was a public place, and if someone was not aware, they could dirty the painting. Therefore, he decided to paint on the roof to preserve it better and spread the painting to everyone by promoting it online.

After sharing the image on social networks, his painting received many likes and comments.

Mr. Luc also revealed that he has some talent for art. When he was in high school, he dreamed of becoming an art teacher. Currently, working for the Party and Youth Union in the locality, the 9X young man still regularly draws and designs propaganda publications. In 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, he also made an impression with a painting of a green-shirted soldier fighting the epidemic, assembled from medical masks.

The patriotic trend of “turning every roof into a national flag” is being enthusiastically responded to by many young people like Mr. Luc. However, as every Vietnamese citizen, before drawing, everyone needs to consult, design, size, and proportion of the national flag according to regulations. At the same time, choosing a suitable location to draw also needs to be appropriate, avoiding being offensive or insulting to the noble images of the nation. At the same time, there must be a method to preserve the painting later.
