Amidst the tensions and generational differences, Gen Z is often judged and stereotyped with false images. From being called lazy to being criticized for having financial difficulties, many comments about Gen Z are unfair and inaccurate.

Meanwhile, this generation is helping to change global cultural and social norms.

The innovation that Gen Z brings may make some older generations uncomfortable. Experts have surveyed and found some things that older generations have labeled Gen Z and proven that they are not entirely accurate.

Gen Z is lazy and doesn't want to work.

According to a survey by Deloitte, more than 86% of Gen Z said that suitable and meaningful work is the most important factor when choosing a job. Instead of chasing achievements, many young people choose to balance work and life, which makes them different from previous generations. In addition, they also care about flexible working hours, workplace culture and social issues.

Unlike the Baby Boomer generation, who grew up in a “workaholic” culture, believing that success comes from sacrifice and loyalty to the company, Gen Z does not see it as appropriate. They refuse to work in places where the salary is not commensurate with their efforts and the environment is unhealthy. The notion that Gen Z is afraid of work or wants to be unemployed is wrong and one-sided.

Gen Z doesn't want children

According to a report from MassMutual, one of the largest and oldest life insurance companies in the US, nearly a quarter of Gen Z said they don’t want to have children. But the reason isn’t just due to changing family values, but largely due to financial burdens.

With modest incomes, many young people say they cannot afford to raise children, let alone buy a home. Political instability and social upheaval add to their concerns.

Gen Z's delay or refusal to have children is not entirely their choice, but largely due to forced circumstances.

Don't like being a boss

While many Gen Zers are reluctant to get promoted, that doesn’t mean they don’t want to. Gen Zers aren’t blindly loyal to companies that don’t respect their needs, boundaries, and goals. But when they find meaningful work, they’re willing to work their butts off.

In fact, they are willing to take a pay cut to find a job that has a clear purpose in life. This makes them work harder, spend more hours, and devote themselves to creating value.

Gen Z doesn't want to sacrifice work-life balance just to get promoted to a management position in a company that doesn't respect them, but when the right job comes along, they're totally willing to do so.

shy to communicate

There is a misconception that Gen Z is not interested in social interaction or face-to-face conversation with others. Given the social upheaval they experienced growing up, it is understandable that they are less social and uncomfortable in social situations than previous generations.

According to a survey by the McKinsey Health Institute, an organization that researches and improves public health, excessive use of social media can negatively affect communication and integration skills. However, many Gen Z have built communities that help them develop themselves through the Internet.

This shows that Gen Z is not afraid of communication, they just haven't found a way to connect.

So, it's not that Gen Z doesn't want to communicate, they just haven't figured out how to connect socially effectively.

Lack of social understanding

Gen Z lives and works differently than previous generations. They reject traditional expectations about work, family, relationships, and even gender norms. This leads to them being misunderstood as socially ignorant.

Nowadays, Gen Z values self-determination of their own lives and futures instead of being forced into a framework.
