CNN (USA) reported on April 15 that this bridge is called Huajiang Grand Canyon, built in Guizhou, Southwest China.

Huajiang Grand Canyon is a steel truss suspension bridge with a total length of 2.8km. The truss has a total weight of 22,000 tons, equivalent to 3 Eiffel Towers. The bridge started construction on January 18, 2022 and is expected to be completed on June 30, 2025.

The bridge is 625m above the river level. In addition, Huajiang Grand Canyon is expected to be "slightly" higher than the world's current highest bridge, Millau Viaduct (France) at 288m.

Guizhou Province is a mountainous region of China with complex terrain. The new bridge will span the majestic Huajiang Grand Canyon, also known as the “crack in the Earth.”

China is stepping up a nationwide campaign to improve infrastructure, especially in relatively underdeveloped mountainous areas such as Guizhou, about 1,287 km (800 miles) west of Shenzhen.

Once the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is in operation, cars and trucks will be able to pass through the area more easily than before. According to local media, the bridge will shorten the travel time through the Huajiang Grand Canyon from two hours to just one minute.

The chief engineer of Guizhou Highway Group, the unit in charge of constructing the bridge, told China Daily: “Currently, the overall progress of the project has reached 95% and is expected to open to traffic in the second half of 2025.

When completed, this megaproject will be the first in the world to have such a structure in both directions. It will be another iconic project, demonstrating China's infrastructure strength."
