On May 12, the northern provinces and cities had the highest UV index of the day at an average level, with Hai Phong City reaching a high level (5.8).

The provinces and cities in the Central and Southern regions all reached very high levels (from 6.7 to 9.7). The time when the maximum UV index appears usually occurs from 11am to 1pm.

On May 12, the UV index in the cities: Ha Long (Quang Ninh province) was 4.1; Hai Phong 5.8, Hanoi 3.8; Hue (Thua Thien-Hue province) 8.5, Da Nang 9.4, Hoi An (Quang Nam province) 9.7, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) 9.2. Ho Chi Minh City 6.7, Can Tho 9.0, Ca Mau (Ca Mau province) 8.8.

From May 13 to 15, the northern provinces and cities are at medium risk of damage (on May 13 and 14); on May 15, the risk of damage is high to very high. The central and southern provinces and cities are at high to very high risk of damage, except for Hue city (Thua Thien - Hue province), Da Nang city on May 13, which is at medium risk of damage.

The UV index scale states that 3-6 is medium, 6-8 is high, and 8-10 is very high.

Health experts recommend that people take proactive measures to protect their bodies from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, such as wearing sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays, hats, and sun-protective clothing, limiting sun exposure during peak hours, using broad-spectrum sunscreen, and reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours.
