On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), on October 8, the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts organized the exhibition "Hanoi - Vitality and Faith".
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong attended and cut the ribbon to open the exhibition.
The exhibition introduces 70 paintings, graphics, and sculptures by many authors selected from the “Modern Fine Arts” collection of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. With diverse materials, rich visual language, unique styles and imprints, the works not only recreate scenes, slices, perspectives... but also contain the sincere feelings of the artists for the beloved capital.
Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum Nguyen Anh Minh shared: Hanoi - the capital of a thousand years of culture, "where the souls of mountains and rivers of a thousand years have settled"; Hanoi - the City for Peace... are always attractive topics, an endless source of inspiration for the creations of many generations of artists.
Many valuable works of art, imbued with realism, depict vivid, authentic and profound images, expressing the vitality and unceasing rise of the Capital, thereby also expressing the trust of the people of the whole country for this beloved land. The exhibition is a precious gift, a meaningful activity on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital that the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts dedicates to Hanoi and the art-loving public.
In the exhibition area, the works are displayed according to historical periods. The combination and interweaving of works of art in many forms has created a deep and emotional artistic space.
In the first exhibition, Hanoi was seething with revolutionary spirit before 1945, clearly shown through the work “Capturing the Northern Palace” by artist Tran Dinh Tho. Hanoi’s heroic early days of resistance were recreated through the works: “Nga Tu So Citadel”, “Cho Mo” by artist Nguyen Van Ty, “Hanoi in 1947” by artist Cong Van Trung, “Capital of Resistance” by artist Nguyen Quang Phong… The heroic memories of a time of resistance by the steadfast army and people of the capital brought a sense of pride to the viewers.
Next is the introduction of works about Hanoi after 9 years of resistance war. Works such as: "Hanoi Liberation Night" - artist Le Thanh Duc, "Hang Duong Street" - artist Trinh Huu Ngoc, "Liberation Joy" - artist Tran Khanh Chuong... partly depict the brilliant atmosphere of flags and flowers welcoming the troops to liberate the capital. These are beautiful moments of a historical period that have been engraved, remembered and always live forever in the hearts of every Hanoian.
In particular, Hanoi is also the land that President Ho Chi Minh has been attached to the longest in his life. Despite being busy with a thousand and one things, Uncle Ho still took the time to visit and encourage his compatriots, soldiers, workers and the future young generation of the Capital. The close and intimate image of the beloved Father has been recorded by artists through the works: "Uncle Ho with Gia Lam railway workers" by artist Pham Van Lung, "Uncle Ho visits the elementary school" by artist Do Huu Hue...
Over time, “a time of bombs and bullets, a time of peace”, Hanoi has stood firm through the years of war, striving to build an increasingly beautiful capital. The quiet, ancient features in the works of artists Tran Binh Loc, Bui Xuan Phai… interwoven with the strong colors of the construction of the capital such as the works of artists Pham Van Don, Vu Duy Nghia, Kim Thai, Nguyet Nga… bring viewers special emotions during the autumn days.
Combining traditional displays with the application of modern projection technology, the highlight of the exhibition is the “digital museum” section that introduces a series of artworks as if creating a historical film about Hanoi. In particular, the exhibition space also organizes woodblock printing activities to enhance the experience and memories for visitors to the exhibition.
As a person who has lived in the capital for more than 70 years, Ms. Tran Thi Lan (Ba Dinh district, Hanoi) has many impressions and emotions with the works at the exhibition. “I found many of my memories here. The moments my eyes witnessed since I was a child, the sound of bombs, the sound of sirens... then the years of experiencing many difficulties in the early period of peace, the scene of people working enthusiastically, building the capital... then the prosperous scene of dreamy, peaceful Hanoi. Thank you to the exhibition for helping Hanoians remember Hanoi, people outside Hanoi understand more about Hanoi”, Ms. Lan shared.
The exhibition “Hanoi - Vitality and Faith” is open until October 22, 2024 at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi).
