According to Yonhap news agency, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is analyzing related data, including the altitude and distance of the missile.
Meanwhile, Japanese media said the North Korean missile is believed to have fallen outside the country's exclusive economic zone.
Pyongyang has previously voiced its opposition to Seoul and Washington conducting the first large-scale Ssangyong landing exercise in five years, which began last week and is scheduled to last until April 3.
