North Korea has blown up its road linking it to South Korea after announcing it would cut off a road and rail link that had been a symbol of inter-Korean cooperation.
Yonhap news agency quoted the announcement of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) saying that on the morning of October 15, North Korea blew up part of the roads connecting to South Korea.
Days earlier, Pyongyang had announced it would cut off road and rail links that had been symbols of inter-Korean cooperation.
"North Korea detonated a part of the Gyeongui and Donghae roads north of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) around noon (October 15)," the JCS said in a statement.
The JCS has now stepped up surveillance activities and raised combat readiness to deal with any unexpected situations.
The Gyeongui and Donghae roads and railways served as important bridges between North and South Korea, used for economic cooperation projects and humanitarian exchanges.
